UN38.3 certification for air transport
1. Introduction
Metallic lithium, lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods under transportation regulations. Before transportation, their hazards should be appraised to ensure transportation safety. Based on the selection of transportation means, transportation appraisals can be classified into air transportation appraisal certificates, sea transportation appraisal certificates, land transportation appraisal certificates, and railway transportation appraisals. Regardless of which type of transportation appraisal it is, lithium batteries must meet the testing requirements of UN38.3 (Chapter 38.3 of Part 3 of the United Nations Manual of Tests and Criteria).
